DIY Decor for the inartistic: Line Art On Canvas

Many of you will have probably come across my Instagram account and know that I love creating my never ending mood board (or otherwise known as a Puzzle Feed). I do consider myself as creative, but that's as far as my artistic senses go. I can create graphics...

but I cannot draw ANYTHING.

I am a little bit gutted that I never tried harder, I put it down to a 50% lack of patience and 50% lack of talent. Exhibit A of my inartisticness:

If you're wondering which one's mine, it's the sad little puppy face (from left, third down):

Now, before you start judging, I work in digital marketing, which doesn't require me to be able to draw. Thankfully.

If you are anything like me, then you would still find ways to try and decorate and create, regardless of your inartistic abilities.

I love my room, but the one thing I have never been quite happy about are the wall. The walls in my room have remained relatively bare, and I have been meaning to do some decorating for a while.

This is what it looked like:

PLAIN AND BLAND.

DIY Wall Decor

Here's what it looks like now. Admittedly I could have done them on bigger canvases but for my first try, I think they look quite alright!

What You Need

Pentel Permanent Marker Pen Chisel Tip - Click Here To Purchase

Template(s) - Click Here For Templates

Hair Dryer (optional)

*Canvases

*Acrylic Paint

*These are completely up to you, I got the small ones from Home Bargains but you can choose ones that best fit your room. As for paint colours, you can choose according to the following colour combination chart.

Methods

  1. Once you have all the materials prepared, paint the canvases with your choice of colour

  2. Make sure you have enough paint for your canvases, especially if you are mixing the paint. This will prevent you from not having enough paint and ending up with different coloured canvases. If you're impatient like me, you can use a hair dryer to dry the canvas

  3. Using the template, I then drew on the canvases with my permanent marker. TIP: The essence of line art is to do them in one continuous stroke

  4. Once that is complete, you can hang them up and enjoy the look of your new wall decor!

Let me know if you have attempted these yourself, I'd love to see what your look like!
