First Steps To Living Consciously

When it comes to your twenties, everything can be a bit of an overwhelming minefield.

You’re most likely going to be spending all of your time focusing on your career and relationships, that often you forget how to look after yourselves. Whilst furthering your career and maintaining good relationships is important, having a happy and healthy lifestyle should be your main priority.

With that in mind, here are 13 tips for twenty-somethings who want to live a happy and healthy lifestyle:

Drink 8 Glasses Of Water A Day

Drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day has been proven to be good for your health and is something you should be aiming to do every single day. If you struggle to get your daily intake of water, try purchasing a bottle that has physical markers showing how much you need to have had by a certain time point. Not only do they encourage you to drink the correct amount, but they also keep your water nice and cold throughout the day.

Spend Time With The People That Make You Happy

This may seem like an obvious point to make, but when it comes to your twenties it’s important that you’re only spending time with the people that make you happy. Whether it’s your family, your partner or your friends - make time to see the ones you love.

Practice Self-Care

Self-care is an incredibly important thing to learn as it involves taking the time out to look after yourself. This could be curling up with a good book, taking a long soak after a hard day or simply spending time watching your favourite TV show before bed. Self-care means something different to everyone, so it’s important you find out what’s right for you. For inspiration, you can visit this website here.

Take Time Away From Your Electronics

As a twenty-something it’s likely you spend a lot of time using electronics. Whether you’re scrolling through social media, watching films on Netflix or answering emails for work - most of your day to day life will be spent in front of a screen. For a happy and healthy life, try minimising the amount of time you spend using electronics each day.

Make Sure You’re Listening To What Your Body Wants, Rather Than Focusing On Crash Diets

There are so many different people out there telling you what diet is best for your body, but at the end of the day you’re the only one that knows what is best. Take the time to work out what you need to live a healthy life, customising it to suit your lifestyle.

Exercise At Least Twenty Minutes A Day (Even If It’s Just A Light Walk)

Whilst exercise is great for living a healthy lifestyle, it’s also incredible for realising endorphins that improve your mood. Because of this, it’s important that you’re getting a little bit of exercise each day.

You don’t have to take part in anything that is too high in intensity, but you’ll be surprised how much difference 20 minutes of exercise (where your heart rate increases) will make to your overall mood.

Have Regular Check-Ups At The Doctors

Staying healthy is important, and often the key to living a happy life. Make sure you’re having regular doctors appointments and visiting your general practice when you’re feeling unwell. Whether you need antibiotics for a cold, a chat about potential contraceptive methods or to talk about your mental health - it’s important to stay on top of your health.

Read Things That Inspire You

Reading is a great way to ensure you don’t have too much screen time, as well as a great way to find things that inspire you. Whether you love reading fiction or like getting stuck into a self-help or business book, reading is a great way to escape real life and find some inspiration.

Don’t Compare Yourself To Others

Comparison is the thief of joy, so it’s important to remember not to compare yourself to others. Throughout your twenties the people around you will be getting married, having children and progressing through your careers and it’s easy to get caught up thinking you should be doing the same. Don’t forget that it’s okay to move at your own pace and no matter what you’re doing, you don’t have to follow everyone else’s time frame.

Start A Gratitude Log

A gratitude log is a great way to think about the things you are thankful for each and every day. It is easy to get caught up in all of the bad things that happen, so taking time at the end of each day to write down the things that have made you happy can really help you reflect on your life in a positive way. It can be the best part of your day, a huge achievement or just something that made you smile.

Set Yourself Goals You Want To Achieve

Having goals is the perfect way to help you design the life you want to live. Your goals can be career based, family-based or little stepping stones that allow you to be happy. No matter what they are, you’ll feel much better knowing you have a clear plan of how you’re going to get to where you want to be.

Do Something For Others

Helping other people may not be at the top of your list of things to do, but it’s surprising what a little bit of selflessness can do for your soul. Whether you want to help people on a regular basis, volunteer for a charity or you help a friend in need - you’ll feel so pleased you took time away from yourself to do something kind.

Travel Somewhere New As Often As You Can

Whilst this may not possible for everyone, travel is one of the most incredible ways to improve your life. Taking the time to visit a new place with fresh eyes can allow you to experience things you never thought you’d be able to experience. Try visiting a new place at least once a year, whether it’s in your home town or halfway across the world.
